Celebrating 10 Years of the Ice Bucket Challenge
What is the Ice Bucket Challenge?
The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, a viral sensation that swept the globe in 2014, helped raise unprecedented awareness and funds for ALS. Participants would douse themselves in ice water, share a video of the event, and challenge friends to do the same or donate to their local ALS organization. Though only a brief moment in time, this viral sensation raised $2.8 million in Alberta alone in 2014, with $2 million invested directly into the most promising ALS research.
A Decade of Progress
Over the past ten years, the ALS Society of Alberta has seen remarkable progress thanks to the Ice Bucket Challenge. The funds raised have significantly invested in cutting-edge research and expanded client services in Alberta. This research has driven forward new treatments and support systems for those living with ALS, and played a role in the establishment of the Alberta ALS Research Network (AARN).
